Weight Loss and GLP1 FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

How do GLP-1 medications work?

GLP-1 medications help regulate appetite, slow digestion, and improve blood sugar control. They reduce food noise and cravings while helping you feel full sooner. These medications work best when paired with proper nutrition, hydration, and consistent weekly dosing.

They are a tool, not a replacement for healthy habits.

How often do I take my medication?

GLP-1 medications are designed for once-weekly dosing, every 7 days.

Taking doses earlier, later, or more frequently can:

  • Increase side effects

  • Reduce effectiveness

  • Disrupt hunger and satiety signals

Consistency matters more than speed.

Why does my dose look lower than a previous clinic?

Doses can look different depending on medication concentration, not strength.

A lower number of units does not automatically mean less medication. Different pharmacies use different concentrations, which means:

  • Smaller volumes can deliver the same or greater dose

  • Effectiveness is not determined by units alone

Your dose is calculated intentionally based on your response, tolerability, and progress.

Can I increase my dose if I feel hungry?

Not always, and not right away.

Feeling hunger does not automatically mean the medication is not working. Hunger can return due to:

  • Inadequate protein intake

  • Low calorie intake

  • Skipped meals

  • Dehydration

  • Hormonal changes

  • Stress or poor sleep

Dose changes are guided by weekly check-ins, not symptoms alone.

Is it normal to feel hungry again after doing well?

Yes. Appetite suppression can fluctuate.

This does not mean failure or loss of effectiveness. Many patients experience periods where hunger signals briefly return as the body adapts. This is why:

  • Nutrition matters

  • Protein intake matters

  • Meal timing matters

  • Weekly structure matters

Weight loss is not linear.

What nutrition plan works best with GLP-1 medications?

Success depends heavily on nutrition.

General guidelines include:

  • Prioritize protein at every meal. Woman 80-100g daily. Men 100-150g daily

  • Eat regularly, do not skip meals, eat every 2 hours

  • Avoid extremely low calorie intake

  • Stay hydrated daily

  • Focus on simple, whole foods

Under-eating is one of the most common reasons patients stall or feel worse.

What are common side effects?

The most common side effects include:

  • Nausea

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhea

  • Bloating

  • Fatigue

  • Reflux or heartburn

These are usually temporary and dose-related.

How can side effects be reduced?

Side effects improve when patients:

  • Eat enough protein

  • Avoid greasy or heavy foods

  • Stay hydrated

  • Eat slowly

  • Do not overeat when not hungry

  • Maintain weekly dosing consistency

We also support patients with symptom-relief strategies when needed.

When should I be concerned about side effects?

Contact the clinic if you experience:

  • Persistent vomiting

  • Severe abdominal pain

  • Signs of dehydration

  • Inability to eat for more than 24 hours

Most side effects are manageable with early communication.

Why do weekly check-ins matter?

Weekly check-ins allow us to:

  • Adjust dosing safely

  • Address side effects early

  • Review nutrition and habits

  • Prevent stalls

  • Support long-term success

Patients who check in regularly do better overall.

Why does success look different for everyone?

Each body responds differently due to:

  • Metabolism

  • Hormones

  • Medical history

  • Prior weight loss attempts

  • Stress and lifestyle factors

Comparing your journey to others is not helpful. Progress is individualized.

What if the scale is not moving?

Weight loss includes more than the number on the scale.

Other signs of success include:

  • Reduced cravings

  • Smaller portions

  • Better energy

  • Improved labs

  • Clothing fitting differently

Plateaus are normal and temporary.

Is this medication a lifelong commitment?

Not necessarily.

Some patients transition to maintenance dosing, others discontinue with lifestyle support. The goal is long-term metabolic health, not dependence.

We guide this process together.

What makes patients most successful?

The most successful patients:

  • Follow weekly dosing schedules

  • Eat adequate protein

  • Stay hydrated

  • Communicate early

  • Trust the process

  • Focus on consistency over perfection

Medication works best when paired with education and accountability.
