How do GLP-1 medications work? GLP-1 medications assist in regulating appetite, slowing digestion, and enhancing blood sugar control. They help reduce food noise and cravings while promoting a feeling of fullness sooner. These medications yield the best results when integrated with a solid nutrition plan, proper hydration, and consistent weekly dosing. Remember, they are a tool to aid in your weight loss journey, not a substitute for healthy habits. 


How often do I take my medication? GLP-1 medications are designed for once-weekly dosing, every 7 days. Taking doses earlier, later, or more frequently can lead to increased side effects, reduced effectiveness, and disrupted hunger and satiety signals. Consistency matters more than speed. 


Why does my dose look lower than a previous clinic? Doses may appear different based on medication concentration rather than strength. A lower number of units does not necessarily indicate less medication. Different pharmacies utilize varying concentrations, which means smaller volumes can deliver the same or even greater dose. Effectiveness is not determined by units alone; your dose is calculated intentionally based on your response, tolerability, and progress.

General guidelines include prioritizing protein at every meal—80-100g daily for women and 100-150g daily for men. Eat regularly without skipping meals, consume food every 2 hours, avoid extremely low calorie intake, stay hydrated daily, and focus on simple, whole foods. Under-eating is one of the most common reasons patients stall or feel worse. 


What are common side effects? The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, and reflux or heartburn. These are typically temporary and dose-related. 


How can side effects be reduced? Side effects tend to improve when patients eat enough protein, avoid greasy or heavy foods, stay hydrated, eat slowly, refrain from overeating when not hungry, and maintain weekly dosing consistency. When should I be concerned about side effects? Contact the clinic if you experience persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, signs of dehydration, or an inability to eat for more than 24 hours. Most side effects are manageable with early communication.
